On the Route
Mulranny
Mulranny is a linear seaside town with glorious views across Clew Bay to Clare Island and beyond. It was a popular Victorian seaside resort with visitors coming by the Great Western Railway Line which is now the Great Western Greenway cycling trail. Mulranny celebrates its railway heritage, much of which has been sensitively restored. The former Railway Hotel is now the Mulranny Park Hotel and the railway station behind it is also restored. The causeway built in 1889, crosses the salt marshes and Trawoughter Bay leading to the Blue Flag Beach. Mulranny has shops, cafés and a hotel.
